Expository Essay: Fear Affects Peoples Lives

Shaking, sweating, and paralyzed, Jim stands there staring at the huge beast on his African hunt that has suddenly turned into his worst nightmare. Whether hunting for beast or struggling to make it through the five o’clock traffic, fear can affect one’s behavior and life. Fear can be used as a weakness or a strength such as retreating when scared or conquering fear to achieve a goal.

Fear affects one life by making them weaker or seem weaker, when one chooses to hide or give up on tackling their fears. For example, when Tom was middle school he was picked on because he wasn’t very good at sports, so people made fun of him until he finally quit and he regrets that ever since. When one has a fear bad enough that it controls one’s life, it can make one make wrong and uneducated decisions. In addition, by not confronting one’s fear, they try to hide it or ignore the fact until it gets where they have no control over themselves. When one is faced by their fear, they can choose to hide it , which can bring mental health problems ,such as craziness or depression. Therefore, it is important to confront your fears before it gets bad.

Fear can also bring strength by making one more confident and a better person. For example, when someone conquered their fear, they feel more confident to make the day great and improves body image. Confidence can increase one’s mindset and how they seem to others while making them a better person. Furthermore, good behavior can bring the impression of a good person to be closer with and makes one happier too, which also improves your image. Therefore, when one is confronted with their fears it is better to conquer them and tackle the problems.

In the end, Jim conquers his fear and “tames” the beast and now he has the pride and confidence to do it again.
